Scotties Kick off Season with 14-5 Victory

Box Score In his coaching debut for the Highland Scotties, former player now head coach Daniel Dulin got his first win as skipper in dominating fashion with a 14-5 win over the Ottawa University Braves.

"Oh yeah, I was a little nervous. You want the guys to perform well and you want everything to run smoothly. I just kept telling myself that we've prepared the best we can, we just have to execute," commented coach Dulin after the win.

The Braves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after a home two-run homer. Highland settled in after that first half inning and held the Braves to only two more runs the remaining 8-innings. "Honestly, I didn't say anything to them after that first inning, but purposely. That has been our message all year, stay with the process. When adversity hits, we just have to stay the course and do what we do, don't change," commented Dulin.

A big five-run, 3rd inning and five-run 6th, really changed the momentum of the game in favor of the Scotties. A triple by Adam Miner in the bottom of the sixth would knock in three runs. A Keishon Brown single would score Miner from third and a Wyatt Nowack double brought in the fifth run of the inning. That opened up the score 14-5 with three innings to play. Neither team could get the bats going and the game would end in favor of Highland 14-5.

Adam Miner, freshman from Omaha, NE, had a great day at the plate going 3-4 hitting a single, double and a triple and knocking in four RBI's. "Miner had a big day for us no doubt. He barreled some balls up that gave us a spark and were definitely momentum changers in the game" commented coach Dulin on the play of freshman Adam Miner.

Yadiel Pacheco was the winning pitcher throwing three innings and giving up only two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out three.

"It always feels good to get that first win, especially when it's at home," stated Dulin, "You want to start every season on a positive note and give guys confidence that you hope will carry over for a while."

The Scotties are back in action Thursday, February 16th as they host KJCCC opponent Cloud County CC in a double-header in Highland. Game one will start at 1:00pm.
