Box Score The Highland Scotties traveled to Concordia, KS to take on the TBirds of Coud County Community College to redeem themselves from their 0-2 showing earlier in the week. Jose Acosta was the starting pitcher for the Scotties and an aggressive first showing for the Scotties in his sophomore season. Acosta was settled in and confident throughout the game and his defense played well behind him. Early in the innings both the Scotties and the TBirds got a run on the board, but an RBI by Keishon Brown down the left field line scores Adam Miner and the Scotties take a 2-1 lead. Stachys Mcloud steps in for HCC to finish out the game in the 7th inning and the victory was sealed.
Game 2 on Saturday started off in favor of the TBirds as they got their bats swinging off of HCC sophomore Tanner Dungan, and took an early 3-0 lead but the Scotties battled back scoring 2 in the 3rd inning with one being an RBI by Mitchell Austin. Jarod Kullberg came in to pitch in the bottom of the fifth to take on a 6-2 lead by the TBirds. Freshman, Cedric Rodriguez stepped in and hit a bomb over the left field fence late in the game closing the gap 4-7 and that is how the series would end against Cloud County CC.
The Highland Scottie baseball team is now 2-3 overall for the 2017 spring season and will travel to Emporia, KS to face the JV Hornets team on Tuesday, February 21st at 3:00PM in 1, 9 inning game.
