Box Score 4 Highland squared off with Cowley in a four-game set on the baseball diamond over Spring break playing all four games in Cowley due to weather and the Scotties were unable to snag a win against the Tigers.
Scotties tightest game against the Tigers came in the first game of the series as Highland's comeback fell short with Scotties falling 7-6. Game two of the doubleheader on Wednesday saw Highland fall 12-1 in eight innings. Day two of action the Scotties suffered 6-0 and 12-0 losses.
The losses moved Highland to 8-13 on the season and 2-6 in KJCCC action.
Game 1 – Cowley won 7-6
Highland struck first in the series against Cowley capitalizing on a pair of first inning walks in game one of a four-game set and a
Isaac Nunez double made it 1-0 Scotties. Cowley countered by tagging the Scotties for a five-run bottom of the first and adding two more in the second but the Scotties didn't go away. In the top of the fifth Highland tallied five runs to close within a run.
Jacob Selock led the fifth off with a single and a
Nick Schifftner walk had two on for
Jhors Gomez who notched a double to bring in a pair of runs to start the scoring in the fifth for Highland. Two more free passes loaded the bases and
Cade Medellin drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the third run of the inning,
Jaeden Rodriguez then brought in two more off a single making it 7-6 Cowley. Highland however was unable to get more offense going in the game falling 7-6.
In the loss Nunez was 1-2 with a run scored, double, RBI and two walks, while Schifftner went 1-1 with a run scored and three walks. Gomez added a 1-4 performance with a run scored, double and two RBI. As a team Highland had 11 free passes in the contest.
Jared Wells took the loss on the mound tossing four innings, while
Drake Seetin had two innings of spotless relief.
Game 2 – Cowley won 12-1 (8 innings)
Early offense by Cowley set the tone early of game two as the Scotties were battling from behind and were unable to get consistent offense rolling in the contest. Cowley tallied a run in the first, two in the second and another in the third to lead 4-0 against the Scotties through just three innings. That lead grew for Cowley with two runs in the sixth, another in seventh and five more in the eighth to finish the game. Highland managed their lone run in the top of the eighth when
Jhors Gomez blasted his first home run of the season but the Scotties fell 12-1 in eight innings.
Gomez led the offense going 2-4 with a run scored, RBI and home run.
Cade Medellin had a double and drew a walk, while
Jaeden Rodriguez and
Nick Schifftner each had a hit.
Joan Gonzalez tossed six innings of work and took the loss on the mound.
Game 3 – Cowley won 6-0
It was a pitching duel through the first four innings on day two of the four-game series as the game featured just three base runners combined in the first four innings. In the fifth inning Cowley took advantage of a Scottie error along with a pair of hits to tallying a pair of runs but the Scotties kept the game at 2-0 until the seventh when Cowley sent eight to the plate and scored four runs. Highland tried to get offense going in the bottom of the seventh but stranded a pair and fell 6-0.
Jorge Luis Burgos,
Alejandro Torres and
Jaeden Rodriguez registered the only hits of the game for Highland with both Torres and Rodriguez getting doubles. In the loss
Jacob Gajic was stout on the mound going the distance and battling all contest.
Game 4 – Cowley won 12-0 (8 innings)
The offense once again struggled for the Scotties in the series finale and once again the Scotties found themselves battling back from behind from early in the contest. Cowley tallied a run in the first, three more in the third and then opened the game up with five in the seventh and three in the eighth. Highland managed only five base runners in the contest ultimately falling 12-0 in eight innings.
Jacob Selock had two of the four hits for the Scotties going 2-4, while
Nick Schifftner and
Alejandro Torres each had a hit also.
Stephen Keech took the loss on the mound tossing three innings as the starter, while
Max Milligan,
Austin Gottula and
Bryan Rollin all saw action.
