Box Score The Highland Scotties began their inaugural season today with a home loss to Allen County Community College by a score of 8-0.
Highland fielded a team of 14 players for the spring season and today the lack of depth on the bench played a large factor in the outcome of the match.
The Scotties struggled on the offensive side of the ball, only drawing 3 shots on goal for the entire match. Freshman
Emily Battye offered some strong service balls off of set pieces, but there were no Scotties on the other end to drive the ball in the net. Freshman
Rudy Bucknall managed 2 of the 3 Scottie shots on goal.
Freshman
Morgan Messer did a fine job of controlling the center of the field for the Scotties, but ultimately Highland struggled producing shots on the Allen County goal.
Rebecca Gardiner made her collegiate debut in goal, and while she did give up 8 goals, she managed an impressive 17 saves on 30 shots from her opponent. Gardiner distributed the ball well and her clears were an effective defensive tool for the Scotties.
The Scotties go on the road next to face Pratt Community College on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. They return home to Highland on Saturday, April 17 to face Southeast Community College at 1:00 p.m. Be sure to catch all the action on the Scottie Sports Network!
