Coach Hay Announces The Early 2023-24 Recruiting Class

Highland, KS – The fall ball season has wrapped up and as Scottie Baseball enters the winter months, Head Coach, Landon Hay is excited to announce the signing of 12 Future Scotties who will join the program in the fall of 2023 to kick off the early signing period. The early signing class contains Future Scotties from Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Colorado.

On a brief interview with Head Coach, Landon Hay on the recruiting class, he shared the following: "we are incredibly excited about the recruiting class we have begun to build for the 2023-2024 season! Our coaching staff has worked tirelessly, spending a massive number of hours and miles on the road, to identify, recruit and sign these Future Scotties in the early signing period as we continue to build towards a bright future for Scottie Baseball! We look forward to wrapping up our 2023-24 recruiting class throughout the rest of the year! These young men and their families will make great additions to Scottie Nation and we could not be more excited to welcome them to our family!"

Isaiah White - (Flossmoor, IL):

Isaiah White will join Scottie Baseball from Flossmoor, Illinois after completing his career at Homewood-Flossmoor High School this spring. A 5'10" outfielder, White brings a high level of athleticism to Scottie Baseball. During his prep career Isaiah is ranked as the #27 outfielder in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report and will certainly be a name for Scottie fans to follow!

"Isaiah is a + athlete and brings a ton of energy and enthusiasm for the game of baseball to Highland. He has a number of advanced tools on the field and we look forward to seeing what he can do in a Scottie uniform!"

Keaton Matlick - (Paola, KS):

A left-handed pitcher from right here in the Sunflower State, Keaton Matlick will join the Scotties after graduating from Paola High School in Paola, KS. Matlick impressed Scottie coaches all summer putting up impressive numbers on the mound each time they saw him pitch and even flashing some power at the plate as well! Keaton has been ranked as the #6 ranked Left handed pitcher in the state of Kansas by Prep Baseball Report.

    Coach Hay on Keaton:

"Keaton has huge upside on the mound and we will look for big things from him immediately. Flashing a FB in the mid 80's paired with an impressive arsenal of breaking and off-speed pitches, Keaton will have a chance to make an immediate impact on the mound and really boost our pitching staff."

Dylan Zimmerman - (Platte City, MO):

A 6'2" outfielder from nearby Platte County High School in Platte City, MO, Dylan Zimmerman will come to Highland after a decorated high school career which already includes a Class 5 baseball state championship in 2022 and a very successful stint as a quarterback on the gridiron. Dylan brings a high baseball IQ and impressive tools to "The Land."

"Dylan is a Future Scottie that we identified early on as exactly the type of player and person that we are looking for when we identify potential Scotties! After following him through the spring 2022 high school season and all the way into the summer, we are ecstatic he is going to wear a Scottie uniform! Pairing a + arm with big play potential on offense, Zim will definitely be exciting to watch during his time at Highland."

Solomon Holmes - (Cleveland, MO):

Solomon will join the Scotties after graduating from The Barstow School in Kansas City. A very skilled defensive catcher, Holmes also possess a dangerous bat and has potential to provide lots of fireworks for Scottie fans during his time at Highland. Standing at a physical 6'0", 190ib frame and possessing a 95+ exit velocity and a pop time below 2 seconds, Solomon will be a force to be reckoned with in the Jayhawk conference.

    Coach Hay on Solomon:

"Solomon came to our camp in the winter of 2022 and impressed our staff in a big way. After getting to know him and his family we immediately knew he needed to be a Scottie! He possesses a high level of talent on both sides of the baseball and certainly has the chance to impact our program on the field from day one!"

Pierce Bousselot – (Grain Valley, MO):

A 5'11" Left-handed pitcher from Grain Valley, Missouri. Pierce brings an advanced feel for his entire pitch repertoire to the mound for the Scotties. Identified during the spring of 2022, the Scottie Coaching staff moved quickly to recruit Pierce. Having an established history of bringing talented players to Highland from Grain Valley will certainly continue with Pierce being in a Scottie uniform for the next two years. Pierce has been ranked as the #23 left handed pitcher in the state of Missouri by Prep Baseball Report.

    Coach Hay on Pierce:

"The story of how we discovered Pierce is pretty cool, we were actually at a post season game to see his opponent and by the time a couple innings had past we knew immediately we needed to be recruiting Pierce as well. He has a great presence to him when on the mound, with advanced pitch-ability, those reasons, paired with the fact he commands multiple pitches in the zone at all times we know there is potential for Pierce to be a big-time contributor to our pitching staff."

Reo Miller – (Mayetta, KS):

Reo Miller comes to Highland from nearby Mayetta, KS and Royal Valley High School. After impressing the Scottie Coaching staff at the fall 2022 Future Scottie Camp with the quickness in his arm as well as a unique delivery and arm slot, it was clear Reo needed to become a Scottie. While slightly undersized, standing at just 5'8", Reo possesses a bulldog mentality when on the mound and will compete hard during his time in a Scottie Uniform.

    Coach Hay on Reo:

"Reo checks off a lot of boxes for us as a coaching staff. He has a desire to continue to develop, a fierce level of competitiveness and a true desire to be a Scottie! As an added bonus he is from right down the road in Mayetta and understands the unique qualities of a small Kansas town. All of this make him a great fit for us and we are very excited he'll be joining us next fall!"

Layten Copher – (Joplin, MO):

Another Future Scottie that was identified at the fall 2022 camp, Layten has a physical presence on the baseball field that is hard to come by at times. Standing 6' 3" with very athletic tools and an arm from the outfield that has been clocked as high as 86mph, Layten will look to make an immediate impact on the field for the Scotties. Hailing from Joplin, Missouri and Joplin High School, Layten continues the trend of talented players from Southwest, Missouri to make the trip north to "The Land" for the start of their colligate career.

    Coach Hay on Layten:

"Layten showed out incredibly well at our showcase and made it impossible to not sign him. Showing some of the best metrics we've seen in the athletic portion of the evaluation, paired with massive power at the plate and arm strength from the outfield, we knew he needed to be a Scottie. Additionally, Layten comes from an area that we have started to make a small recruiting base in southwest, Missouri and will certainly be a great fit for Highland during his time here!"

Carter Poindexter – (Overland Park, KS):

Standing 6 feet tall and showing advanced speed on the base path, Carter Poindexter will add athleticism and speed to the Scottie offense. Hailing from Overland Park, KS and St. James Academy, Carter is familiar with the Jayhawk conference and the style of baseball that the Scotties are looking to play. Carter has been ranked as the #28 outfielder in the state of Kansas by Prep Baseball Report.

    Coach Hay on Carter:

"Carter is another signee that attended our Future Scottie camp this fall and showed a high level of athleticism and a good swing at the plate. He has the ability to develop into a really special player and we look forward to being able to insert him into our offensive philosophy and let him go to work!"

Kenley Hood – (Webb City, MO):

Kenley Hood will join Scottie Baseball after completing an already impressive high school career for the Cardinals of Webb City Highschool. A 6' 1" first basemen with a great feel for the defensive part of the position and developing physicality at the plate, Kenley will make an impact on both sides of the ball for the Scotties. In his junior year at Webb City, Hood hit .320 and fielded at a clip of .990 for the Cardinals.

    Coach Hay on Kenley:

"Kenley is someone we have been following for quite a while as a coaching staff. After attending our Future Scottie Camp two years in a row we were able to see development over time in his physicality and swing and he has a very impressive set of skills on the defensive side of the ball at first base. We look forward to not only furthering our southwest Missouri connection with Kenley, but also having him with us for two years and continuing to see him develop!"

Blane Young – (Marionville, MO):

Blane will come to Highland after graduating from Marionville High School in the spring of 2023. Standing at 6' tall Young will provide a physical presence to the Scottie Offense. Young hit .412 as a junior in 2022 and was named to the Missouri Class 2 All-State team in his sophomore and junior season.

    Coach Hay on Blane:

"Blane is another Future Scottie that was discovered at our fall camp as he showed a great amount of physicality at the plate paired with good athleticism on the infield. Yet another pick-up for our program from the Southwest Missouri area, we are very excited to have Blane and his family join Scottie Nation."

Parker Hansen – (Brighton, CO):

Parker comes to Scottie Nation from Brighton High School in Brighton, Colorado where he has been a physical presence behind the plate + arm strength. Ranked as the #13 catcher in the state of Colorado by Prep Baseball Report. Hansen possess a pop time below 2 seconds and a good feel behind the dish.

    Coach Hay on Parker:

"Parker is someone we identified as a kid who can come in and add strength and size to our roster. Along with having some good defensive tools behind the plate. Colorado is a state that we have been working to get into recruiting wise since our staff arrived here in Highland and we have taken a big step towards doing that with adding Parker and his family to Scottie Nation."

Grayson Wroten – (Gardner, KS):

Grayson Wroten will join the Scotties after completing his high school career at Gardner-Edgerton Highschool in Gardner, KS. Ranked as the #4 second baseman in the state of Kansas by Prep Baseball Report, Wroten brings athleticism and the ability to develop into a really special player for the Scotties over the next two years.

    Coach Hay on Grayson:

"Grayson is someone we identified at our winter camp last January and our coaching staff followed him through the high school and summer seasons seeing good progression in his development over the last year. After having him and his family on campus we were very excited about the possibility of him being a member of Scottie Nation. Grayson will be able to add depth to our infield and impact the game from multiple positions defensively as well as at the plate."
