Scottie's Sports Recap 9/24

Volleyball Recap
HCC volleyball put on a clinic at the Southwestern Iowa Triangular Friday, Sept. 20, sweeping both matches and continuing their strong season. The Scotties came out victorious against Southwestern Community College and Iowa Lakes Community College to improve to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
 
In the first match of the day, Highland faced Southwestern and cruised to a 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-18. Addyson Holthaus led the Scotties' attack racking up 33 kills and only five errors, finishing with a stellar .297 hitting percentage. Holthaus also contributed three blocks and a 2.50 pass percentage, making her a critical piece of the team's victory.
 
Later that day, Highland took on Iowa Lakes in a hard-fought 3-1 win. The Scotties controlled the first two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-14, but Iowa Lakes battled back to steal the third set 23-25. However, Highland responded decisively, closing out the match with a dominant 25-9 win in the fourth set. Gracie Klecan showcased her defensive prowess, leading the team with 43 digs and adding four aces. She also posted a solid 2.2 serve receive rating, helping Highland go 2-0 on the week.
 
The Scotties return home Wednesday, Sept. 25, to face Neosho County CC at 6:00 p.m., followed by a road match Saturday, Sept. 29, at Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
 
Soccer Recap
On Saturday, the Highland soccer team played to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Hesston College at home. Despite a challenging season, the Scotties continue to fight hard, improving to 1-8-2 overall. Highland will head to Pratt Community College for a 2:00 p.m. matchup on Wednesday before returning home to take on Johnson County Community College on Sunday.
 
Cross Country Recap
The Highland cross country team competed at the Bethel College meet in Newton, Kansas, Sept. 14. Sophomore Annabel Reyes had a standout performance, running a season-best time of 22:24, shaving 55 seconds off her previous meet time. Samantha Presas also impressed, finishing in 22:00, improving by 12 seconds. On the men's side, Jordan Hodge from Hiawatha placed tenth out of 84 runners with a time of 28:19, on a longer-than-usual course.
 
The Scotties will race again Saturday, Sept. 28, at Missouri Western in St. Joseph.
 
Football Recap
In a tough defensive battle, the Highland football team suffered a 6-9 loss to Dodge City Community College on Saturday at home. Both teams struggled offensively, but Dodge City's defense held strong to secure the win. The Scotties, now looking to bounce back, will play again at home Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1:00 p.m., when they host Independence Community College.
