Cameron McGarry Named Interim Head Coach For Highland Football

HIGHLAND, Kan. - As the Scotties prepare for the final two games of the season, Highland President Dr. Vincent Bowhay has announced a change in leadership for Highland Football. Cameron McGarry will serve as interim head coach for Highland's games against Hutchinson and Iowa Western. McGarry rejoins the Scotties from NCAA Division III Lyon College, where he served as a wide receivers coach.

During his previous tenure at Highland, McGarry served as a wide receivers coach and quarterbacks coach for Highland and led a dramatic turnaround in HCC's passing game. Over the course of two years, he increased Highland's passing output by 152 percent, taking the Scotties from 157.3 yds/gm in 2023 to 239.27 yds/gm in 2024, with 20 touchdowns across 11 games in 2024 to just nine scores in 10 games during the 2023 season. Under McGarry's tutelage, Highland quarterbacks averaged nearly 15 yards per completion in 2024 after a mark of just 11.0 yds/catch in 2023.

Prior to joining Highland, McGarry was a graduate assistant wide receivers coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (NAIA), where he helped the Tigers to a 4-7 (4-6 Great Plains Athletic Conference) record in 2021. DWU had a solid yards per completion rate of 11.3 on the season, with 10 touchdowns and 1,579 total yards on the season.

The Frisco, Texas, native earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Texas Tech University in 2021, where he served as a student Recruiting Assistant for the Red Raiders, adding a Master's in Athletic and Activities Administration from Dakota Wesleyan in May 2023.
