Maekele Habtom earns “Scottie Athlete of the Week” honors after continuing to improve his 8K time this season when he raced at the Fort Hays State University Tiger Open helping the Scottie men’s cross country team take sixth as a team out of 12 schools.

Habtom had the third best finish for the Scottie men at the FHSU Tiger Open posting a time of 28:00.6 to place 78^th overall out of 175 runners. The freshman with his latest performance in the 8K race has 3:40 off his time earlier in the season in 8K competition.

On the year in 8K action Habtom raced to times of 28:05.24 and 13^th place at Cottey College, 30:17.1 and 30^th place at Missouri Southern State University Stampede and 31:40.28 for 31^st place at the Rocky Raven meet. He also competed at the Augie Twilight to open the season in a 7K race posting a time of 26:46.16 in the race.
