Evette Edmondson, a Kansas City, MO native, attended Highland after graduation from Paseo High School in 1989. After graduation from HCC in 1991, Edmondson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from the University of North Dakota.
 
At Highland, Edmondson lettered in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track. She was a four-time All-American with four top ten finishes at NJCAA National Meets. She finished 10th in the NJCAA Cross Country Championships in 1990, 4th place in the 3-Mile run in the 1991 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, 2nd place in the 10,000m run and 2nd place in the 5000m run at the 1991 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Edmondson currently holds nine (9) women’s records at Highland:

“Highland Community College helped mature and prepare me to the next level, attending a university. Head Coach Tim Schwegler coached me very hard and I was able to achieve my athletic goals as a distance runner. I always try to motivate people when the opportunity arises.”

In 2013, Evette was inducted into the University of North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame 1991 Women's Cross Country Team. She helped lead the 1991 UND Cross Country Team to their first ever National appearance and a 5th place finish. Also, in 2017, Evette was inducted into the University of North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame 1992 Women's Cross Country Team.  First time the UND women’s cross country team placed first at the NCC meet and second place in the region.  The team placed 4th at cross country nationals.

Since 2005, Evette has worked full time as a paraprofessional for the KCKSPS USD 500. “I enjoy working with children who have special needs. It requires a lot of patience and when you see progress, that’s always very rewarding.”

Evette has run in 170 road races over the years ranging from 1Mile to Marathons and continues to run to this day. She is a lifetime member of the HCC Alumni Association and has given monetary contributions to HCC over the years.
