Highland Community College Athletic Hall of Fame
Roger Gormley attended Highland after graduation from Midway High School in 1964. He graduated from Highland Community College and went on to Kansas State Teachers College where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Management.
At Highland, Gormley lettered 2 years in basketball and track helping win Interstate Conference titles for both programs each year. The 1964-1965 basketball team had a 21-1 record and the 1965-1966 team had a 24-3 record. Gormley was the Track Captain his sophomore year and earned the High Point trophy at the Highland Relays, placing 1st in the 200, 400, and high hurdles, as well as placing 3rd in high jump.
Gormley worked at the Quaker Oats Company for 32 years and then 3 years as a Career Coordinator at Highland Community College. He has been a lifetime supporter of HCC and the community, cheering on teams and volunteering at events such as HCC track meets, quiz bowls, and volleyball tournaments. While on the Highland High School Board, he pushed to get the new track. He has also served as the secretary of the HCC Booster Club many years, keeping up the charter and collecting donations. Gormley is currently on the Alumni Board at HCC.
