Highland Community College Athletic Hall of Fame
Patrick Andrew Wozniak was recruited from Pittsburgh, PA by Coach Kessinger to play basketball at Highland Junior College. Coach Kessinger learned of Pat’s ability to play quarterback and he asked him to play football. Pat also threw the javelin for the track team where he held the school record for a time.  Pat arrived in Highland, KS by bus mid semester and in the middle of winter. To Pat, Highland was his Notre Dame!Â

While attending Highland Junior College as quarterback Pat led the team to a 7-1 record in 1965-66. He was also part of the basketball team that was 43-3 in two seasons. Pat was a football captain and remains the quarterback standard by many to this day.Â

Pat met his wife, Ianthe, while at Highland making this time even more special. Pat attended Kansas State University and transferred to Missouri Southern State College where he completed his degree. He lettered in four sports while in college.Â

Pat’s coaching career of 38 years has taken him to 16 schools in four states, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas and includes two football state championships. He was "Coach Woz" to hundreds of young people as his coaching duties also included boys and girls basketball, track, and golf. He had a lifelong commitment to mentor and prepare students and athletes to be successful beyond high school.Â

Two of Pat’s sons, Andy ‘93 and Brian ‘94, also participated in the football program as quarterbacks while attending Highland Community College.
He is survived by his wife, Ianthe (Percy) of the home outside of Lawrence, KS; children Jami (Ron) VanHercke; Blake, Abby, and Maggie of Olathe, KS; Andy; Minka, Ezra and Finian of Overbrook, KS; Brian (Candi); Lucas and Brent of Olathe, KS. He has 2 sisters; Colleen Wozniak and Kim Rexrode of Erie, PA and Niece Kelly and nephew Clark Rexrode.
