Box Score Last Week's Recap….
Scottie volleyball hosted the Independence Community College Pirates Wednesday night in Allen Field House in front of over 50 attendees in support of their Nemaha Central alums (Holthaus & Nordhus). The Lady Scotties got off to a slow start, falling 25-20 in the first set, but quickly gained momentum and outscored Indy 25-16, 25-12, and 29-27 for the 3-1 victory. The win moved the Scotties to 3-4 in Jayhawk Conference play and 6-11 overall.
Highland was once again led by freshman
Addy Holthaus (Seneca) with 22 kills and 17 digs. Freshman
Elise Curry (Berryton) led the Scotties with 39 assists and 11 digs while freshman
Avery Weathersbee (Denton) contributed with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Scottie football continued their dominating streak with a thrashing of the Ellsworth Community College Panthers by a final of 32-0. The Scotties got on the board early with a freshman place kicker
Adonis Coyle (St. Mary, Ga.) field goal for a 3-0 Scottie lead. The Scotties extended the lead to 5-0 on a safety in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, sophomore quarterback
Tysan Robbins (Orlando, Fla.) snuck the ball into the endzone for a 1-yard touchdown run. With a missed PAT the lead stood at 13-0 in favor of the Scotties at halftime.
In the second half, freshman
Benson Prosper (Miami, Fla.) had a long touchdown reception from Robbins. The Scottie defense added to their scoring total with an interception by sophomore
Malik Franklin (Chipley, Fla.) for a touchdown and a fumble recovery by sophomore
Quantre Moore (Kansas City) for a score. Coyle connected on all three second half PAT's.
It marks the first time since 1958 that Highland football has had three shut-outs in a season. The Scotties moved to 4-3 overall and remain 2-2 in Jayhawk Conference play.

Scottie volleyball is on the road this week with a KJCCC match-up against the Fort Scott Greyhounds Wednesday night. Their match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Scottie football hosts Independence Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Porter Family Stadium. The HCC class of 1973 will be honored this year. They'll tour campus, enjoy a performance by the Lads & Lassies and eat lunch at Kirkwood before the game. The HCC Alumni Association will also host a reception in the Stadium Center for the 50-year grads during the game. Over 40 football alums plan to come back to catch up on old friendships and support Scottie football.
Scottie cross country is headed to Iola, Kan., for the Firestarter Classic hosted by Allen Community College Saturday, Oct. 14. The first race is set for 10:30 a.m.
Scottie softball has two weekends of fall ball left to play. They will be in action on both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15, at Scottie Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. both days.
