Box Score Last Week's Recap….
Scottie football traveled to Garden City Community College Saturday morning and took down a talented Broncbuster team by the final of 3-0. It was just the sixth victory in 40 meetings for the Scotties, snapping a nine-game losing streak dating back to 2014. It also marked the first-time the Scotties ever held Garden City scoreless.
Going into the game head coach DJ Mayo knew if we could force them into disciplined play, we had a chance for a victory. The Broncbusters racked up 11 penalties for 104-yards and turned the ball over four times (all interceptions), all of which helped give our Scotties the opportunity to pull out the win.
Freshman kicker
Adonis Coyle (St. Marys, Ga.) split the uprights with 4:14 left in the third quarter to give the Scotties the 3-0 lead and eventually, the victory. Sophomore quarterback
Tysan Robbins (Orlando, Fla.) connected on 19 of 35 passes for 176-yards. Freshman wide receiver
Benson Prosper (Miami, Fla.) led the Scotties with 69-receiving yards on four catches. Sophomore wide-out
Mendez Jean-Baptiste (Orlando, Fla.) caught nine passes for 55-yards. Sophomores
Malik Franklin (Chipley, Fla.) and
Michael Hourel Jr. (Andalusia, Ala.) led the Scotties defensively with nine total tackles each. Franklin had five solo stops and two interceptions. The win moved the Scotties to 2-2 in Jayhawk Conference play and 2-3 overall.
The Scottie volleyball team has found life on the road difficult lately, dropping two matches last week in hostile territory. On Monday night, our young Lady Scotties faced a talented Ottawa University varsity reserve team. Despite falling behind 2-0, the Scotties battled back to force a fifth set only to run out of gas and lose 3-2 to the Braves. Freshman
Addy Holthaus (Seneca) led the Scotties with 18 kills and 20 digs. Freshman
Avery Weathersbee (Denton) had 13 kills and a team-high 35 assists in the loss.
On Wednesday night, Highland traveled to #18 nationally ranked Neosho County Community College. The road weary Scotties fell to the Panthers 3-0. The loss dropped the Scotties to 2-3 in KJCCC play and 4-9 overall.
