This week in Scottie Athletics: 

Our recap of last week begins with Scottie volleyball winning a pair of matches to remain undefeated in both home and conference play. The Scotties continued their home winning streak with a 3-0 win on Monday night over the University of St. Mary's Spires JV. On Wednesday, the Lady Scotties traveled to Labette and brought back another 3-0 win to move to 4-3 for the season and most notably, 2-0 in the KJCCC.  

The Scottie football team continued their extremely challenging schedule with a road game Saturday night against the #13 ranked Butler County Grizzlies. The Scotties got off to a slow start and a series of costly mistakes found the Highland men down 22-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Scotties fought back and outscored the Grizzlies 19-16 but fell in the end by the final of 38-19. 

The Scottie cross country teams were in action Friday night at the University of St. Mary's Sunset Showdown. The lady harriers kicked off the 2023 campaign with 78 team points, good for a 3rd place finish. The Lady Scotties were led by freshman Annabel Reyes with a 16th place finish in 21:07.36 over the 5K course. The Scottie men finished the meet with 89 points, good for 4th place in the team standings. Leading the way for Highland was freshman Emile Gaubert who navigated the 8K course in 27:20.90, good for 25th place. The Scotties are off this next week before traveling Friday, Sept. 15, to Missouri Southern State University for a meet. 

For the coming week of Sept. 3-9, Scottie football returns home on Saturday for a match-up against the Dodge City Conquistadors. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. at Porter Family Stadium. Scottie volleyball will be on the road for three matches this week, starting with conference opponent Coffeyville Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m. The Highland ladies then travel to Columbus, Neb. Friday, Sept. 8, for a triangular against host Central Community College and Northeast Community College in Nebraska.
