Under the direction of second-year head coach
Jordan Maska, Highland Women's Soccer opens the 2025 season tonight with a 7 p.m. match against Metropolitan Community College - KC. It's the second overall meeting between the Wolves and the Scotties, but the first since HCC returned from dormancy in 2024.
Highland returns the bulk of its 2024 team, including two 19-game starters in
Abby Rash and
Jamie Seehusen. Rash led the Scotties with nine goals and two assists last year, earning First Team All-KJCCC honors. HCC brings back nearly all of its offensive output, with
Jamie Seehusen and
Valerie Salazar joining Rash as multi-goal scorers from 2024.
Defensively, Highland looks to retool with a solid group of newcomers joining anchors
Shaniya Scott and
Angel Wilson. Maska brought in a trio of transfers from Marshalltown Community College in
Giulia Ferrarez Dorini,
Maria Julia Neves Plens and
Manoella Santos and a bright freshman class.
Although HCC was forced to replace its entire goalkeeping corps, Maska was able to find a solid pair of netminders in
Abbie Beeler and
McKenna Glade. Both keepers boasted goals-against-average marks under 1.0 during their senior seasons, with Beeler notching a 0.762 mark for Pueblo West and Glade leading Thompson Valley to a 10-5-1 record with a 0.598 goals against.
