CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After a season that saw Highland return to the NJCAA Division 2 Women's Basketball Championship for the first time since 2018,
Cameron McNamara was named a First Team All-American by the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee. The Downington, Pa., sophomore became just the second player in school history to hit the 1,000-career-point plateau earlier this season and is the sixth Scottie to earn First Team All-American honors.
"I am beyond proud of Cam and all she has been able to achieve in her two years here," said head coach
Saundra Proctor. "We had goals of what we wanted to do this season as a team, and I could not have guessed that Cam would have had a better year than what she did. She will do amazing things over the next few years at North Alabama and I cant wait to watch her from afar."
McNamara was a dominant force in the KJCCC this season, earning Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-KJCCC honors, and she was named the NJCAA Region 6 Plains District Championship MVP after leading Highland to upset wins over no. 1 seed Johnson County Community College and no. 2 seed Allen County Community College. She collected six KJCCC Player of the Week honors - including three straight selections in weeks 6, 7 and 8 - and earned NJCAA Division II Player of the Week honors after recording Highland's first ever triple-double against varsity competition, with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals in a 75-66 win over no. 23 Neosho County.
In addition to breaking through the 1,000-point plateau for her career (1,073 pts), she posted the second-highest single-season point total in school history (684 points, 2024-25) behind Mariane De Carvalho (704, 2017-18) and is only the third player to average better than 20 pts/gm in a season. Kathryn Thomas averaged 20.3 pts/gm (648 pts/32 gm) in 2011-12 and Tiana Gipson hit a 20.2 pts/gm (505 pts/25 gm) pace in the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season. McNamara also holds the single-season record for free-throw percentage (min 5.5 fta/gm) after finishing with 153 makes on 193 trips to the line (79.3 pct) in 2024-25.
McNamara looks to continue her collegiate career at NCAA Divsion I University of North Alabama, under the tutelage of head coach Candi Whitaker.
